Institutional History

National Health Training College is a Government of Lesotho tertiary institution under the Ministry of Health. The institution existed since the 1980s as a nurse-training school, moved to its current location in 1989, and was legally enacted by National Health Training College Order No. 2 of 1992, backdating establishment to July 1988. NHTC is an affiliated college of the National University of Lesotho.

Mandate

NHTC is established for training nurses, midwives, and paramedical personnel at professional and auxiliary levels, and in the long term to train medical practitioners and all health personnel. The college currently offers about 12 programmes at LQF levels 5 to 8, with about 450 full-time contact students.

Strategic Direction

The probationary accreditation statuses of ten programmes expired by 2024. In 2023, the Government of Lesotho resolved to convert NHTC to the Lesotho University of Health Sciences, and a draft parliament bill for this transition is reportedly at an advanced stage.
